Indian glaciers retreating at a faster pace

 


Indian glaciers in the Himalayas, often referred to as the "water towers of Asia," are retreating at an unprecedented pace due to the impacts of climate change. Scientists and policymakers voiced their concerns at the United Nations, highlighting the alarming acceleration in glacial melting driven by rising global temperatures, increased greenhouse gas emissions, and local environmental factors such as deforestation and urbanization.

Experts emphasize the need for reducing carbon emissions, adopting sustainable practices, and protecting the fragile ecosystems of the Himalayas through afforestation and stricter environmental regulations.

The retreat of Indian glaciers is a stark reminder of the urgent need for global climate action. Protecting these glaciers is essential for preserving biodiversity, ensuring water security, and maintaining the livelihoods of millions.
